Drivers Education

Drivers Education Update:

The TAHS Drivers Education program will resume again in the fall, but with a few changes.

Classes will be offered once every marking period.  They will run from 3:15 – 5:15 on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays. It will not matter if you are on the A or B schedule, you will be able to participate because the course is offered after school.  Students are responsible for their own transportation.  There is no charge for the class. Signups will be limited to 14 students per class; students need to register with Ms. Raling in the Guidance Office.  The first class will begin September 8.  A parent/guardian is expected to join us on day one for the official parent/family orientation.  (See the attached link & parents only attend once!)  Masks and social distancing will be required of students, staff and family alike.

Behind-the-Wheel (BTW) will being in September.  Mr. Bouslough will first take those students who had registered in the Spring.  He will begin contacting those students/families shortly.  When he has finished, he will then begin taking new drivers.  To register for BTW, students need to first have completed and passed the classroom portion.  Students are to take their permits and a check (make payable to TASD) or $45 in cash to the Main Office to sign up.  We will then reach out to them to schedule their times.  At this point the End of Course Skills Test (final road test) will be given at the state DMV licensing centers and not at the school.  We hope this might change later in the school year.  This program will still qualify students for insurance discounts.  Students are reminded that masks will be required throughout the session.  Stay tuned for follow up information.

Our sophomore students, and any other student who has completed 9th grade or is age 16 and up, will be given handouts the first week of school in their Civics classes or they may stop and see Mr. McNitt personally.  If you are interested in this program we suggest you read the information found at this link FIRST:

Or, if you have trouble, go to the district website, high school, staff pages, Mr. McNitt, Driver’s Education and open the files titled, “2020-2021 School Year Updates and Covid-19 Protocol” for the program updates.

The TAHS Drivers Education Team looks forward to working with your students once again!
