COPPA

The Tyrone Area School District encourages the use of a number of productivity and educational applications and websites in district classes.  These services provide important tools that allow the district to supplement class learning, assess student progress, and individualize instruction for students.  Frequently, in order to fully utilize these services, certain personal information must be provided to create accounts or provide individualized access.  Such information may include the student's name, grade level, age, geo-location, and/or district e-mail address.

The Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) is federal law that protects children under the age on 13 from the collection of of personal information while on the Internet.   It mandates that site operators must seek parental consent to collect or use the personal information of any children who are users of their system.   When the district creates accounts on these services for your child or requests that your child sign up for a particular service, we must seek parental permission to allow your child to access the sites.

Below is a list of all current applications utilized by the district along with a link to their privacy policies.  If you have any concerns regarding your child access to these applications, please contact your building principal.   For further information on COPPA , please refer to https://www.ftc.gov/tips-advice/business-center/guidance/complying-coppa-frequently-asked-questions-0

Parents are encouraged to review the list on a regular basis as updates will be made throughout the school year.
