  • Christopher Trimpey, TAHS Class of 1977, was raised in Tyrone by his mother, Carol Trimpey. Upon graduation from TAHS, he entered the U.S. Navy as a Seaman Recruit. His education includes an Associate’s Degree from Saint Leo College, a Bachelor’s Degree from Mary Washington University, and a Master’s Degree from Troy State University.

    Director/Commander Trimpey held tremendous responsibilities while in the U.S. Navy. He quickly climbed the ranks and was one of the very few selected for the Navy’s elite Limited Duty Officer Program (Mustang Officer) where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He is an expert in multiple warfare areas and a master at building teams from diverse organizations. During his career, he ran four Command Centers, several in which he played significant roles in active Combat Operations. His knowledge of U.S. Navy Fleet Operations, Carrier Strike Group Operations, Joint/Coalition Force Operations, Aegis, Air Defense, Space and Electronic Warfare are unmatched.

    For a short period of his career, after retiring from active duty with the U.S. Navy, he worked as a Technical Director for a Defense Contractor. Trimpey, was charged with providing technical direction, operational guidance, and engineering management services to the Naval Surface Warfare Center, Port Hueneme Division’s Battle Force Interoperability Branch. 

    Director/Commander Trimpey, decided to return to the U.S. Navy as a Civil Servant, where he could continue to make great impacts; he was selected to be a Program Manager, where he worked with some of the most advanced Naval Combat Systems in existence. He served as an interoperability certification authority supporting the Naval Sea Systems Command in Washington D.C. His main objective was ensuring Fleet Sailors received Naval Combat Systems that performed at the highest level required.

    Trimpey, was requested to transfer to the U.S. Navy Military Sealift Command to serve as Director of Assessments, Analytics, and Knowledge Management for a newly formed Corporate Operations Directorate. Trimpey, spearheaded significant advances in command data analysis programs and knowledge management for a command numbering 10,000 personnel that operated 130 ships across the globe. In three years, starting from nothing, he established   programs that were applauded throughout the Department of Defense and Federal Government. He reinvigorated the Command Continuous Process Improvement program and trained over 500 personnel. His authoring and execution the Commander’s Data Exploitation plan was flawless. His efforts were many years ahead of other Naval Commands in the execution of the Department of Defense and Navy’s Data Management Plan. Building a team of government Civil Servants, Military personnel, Massachusetts Institute of Technology Ph.Ds, and Contractors, he set in place robust Data Management and Knowledge Management programs that set the standard for U.S. Navy commands. He employed Advanced Data Modeling and Artificial Intelligence well before other Navy Commands.

    Director/Commander Trimpey has been professionally recognized at the highest levels. He has received the Navy Superior Civilian Service Medal, the Navy Meritorious Civilian Service Medal, the 2017 Department of Defense Chief Information Officer (CIO) Cyber and Information Technology Excellence Award (Team Lead) presented by the Department of Defense and White House Chief Information Officers, the Curve Bender Award for innovation as well as numerous high-level military awards that include: two Meritorious Service Medals, six Navy Commendation Medals, and two Navy Achievement Medals. His certifications include: Knowledge Manager, AGILE Specialist, and Navy Master Training Specialist. He attended numerous Navy Technical and Managerial courses throughout his over forty-year career.

    Now fully retired, Director/Commander Trimpey continues to seek opportunities to mentor others.  Trimpey, a lifelong learner, keeps himself busy as a Director and Youth Program Coordinator for the Suffolk-Nansemond Izaak Walton League, member of the Virginia Beach Anglers Association, and member of the Tidewater Virginia Grady White Club.
