David Hileman

  • David and his wife Janet have been married for forty-five years.  David was in the business of dairy farming for forty-six years. He believed in the quote   "Farming as a lifestyle can be a poor business model. But farming as a business can lead to a great lifestyle."

    David has received numerous awards in his farming career including the Pennsylvania "Master Farmer Award", "Pennsylvania Farmer of the Year" recognition and he was named the "World Dairy Exposition Dairyman of the Year."   He was recognized for "Outstanding Farmland Conservation" by the Blair County Conservation District. The Blair County Chamber of Commerce honored David with the "Excellence in Small Business Award" and the  "Agriculture Community Excellence Award."

    David and his wife, Janet, believe "No one can help everyone, but everyone can help someone." They have been blessed to be able to provide over three hundred scholarships to area high school students.  They were recognized by the Central Pennsylvania Community Foundation with the "Central Pennsylvania Philanthropy Award."   David and Janet have been longtime supporters of 4-H and FFA. They recently received the "Blue and Gold Award" from the Tyrone FFA.  He has served in leadership positions on numerous local, state, and national dairy-related organizations. David represented two large agricultural cooperative businesses by giving presentations throughout the United States and Europe.  Speaking in India was his most memorable experience. In his retirement years, he has volunteered to serve on local boards including Fort Roberdeau Association, Penn Highlands Tyrone Regional Board, the Tyrone /Snyder Public Library and the St. John’s Lutheran Church Council.

    Both David and Janet believe much of their success can be attributed to the education they received from the Tyrone Area High School.
