    General Music - Grade 5
     
     
    Grade 5 students will focus on the instruments of the orchestra and their family classifications. Students will also learn about text painting which is when a composer uses music to tell a story without the use of words or pictures. During these activities, students will be asked to create stories and drawings that relate to the music that they are listening too. 
     
    Chorus - Grade 5
     
    Grade 5 students will focus on music written in unison or two-part harmony.  Emphasis will be placed on proper singing techniques such as: pitch accuracy, rhythmic accuracy, vocal placement, proper breathing, dictation, projection, and proper posture.  This course is required and will meet twice during every 7 day rotation.
     
    General Music - Grade 6
     
    Students will study the basic elements of pitch and rhythmic recognition. They will also focus on the use of dynamics in musical composition. By the end of this course, students will have a basic understanding of how to read and interpret music. 
     
    Chorus - Grade 6
     
    Students will focus on music written in unison or two-part harmony.  Emphasis will be placed on proper singing techniques such as: pitch accuracy, rhythmic accuracy, vocal placement, proper breathing, dictation, projection, and proper posture.  This course is required and will meet twice during every 7 day rotation.
     
    Chorus - Grades 7 & 8
     
    Students will focus on music written in unison or two-part harmony.  Emphasis will be placed on proper singing techniques such as: pitch accuracy, rhythmic accuracy, vocal placement, proper breathing, dictation, projection, and proper posture.  Students will also have the opportunity to sing in other languages and to perform music representing a wide variety of musical styles.
     
    Vocal Attraction  - Grades 7 & 8
    (By audition only) 
     
    Students will work on SAB music (a majority of which will be choreographed).  Emphasis will be placed on taking the vocal abilities of theses students to a higher level.  Theses abilities will include pitch accuracy, vocal placement, rhythmic accuracy, breath control. phrasing, diction, projection, singing in other languages, posture, and overall stage presence.
     
    Students will perform a variety of musical styles at school concerts and various community events throughout the year.
     
    Grade 8 group members will meet on a daily basis while grade 7 group members will be scheduled for the class on two of their grade 7 rotation days.  All group members will also be required to attend after school rehearsals. 
     
    TAHS Concert Choir      Grades 9, 10, 11 and 12
     
    Participation in this prestigious senior high school choral ensemble requires no addition.  Concerts include the traditional Holiday and Spring Concerts.  Additional performances are added throughout the school year.  Students study traditional choral literature from various time periods including contemporary popular music.  Members of this group and POPS Extension, who are enrolled in grades 10-12, are also eligible to audition for the Pennsylvania Music Educators' District, Region, All-State and All-Eastern Choruses.  Prerequisite:  Teacher signature is required.
     
    POPS Extension            Grades 9, 10, 11 and 12

    POPS Extension is the show choir at Tyrone Area High School.  This award-winning ensemble performs a variety of distinctive choral literature.  Students will develop individual vocal skills, choreography skills, musicianship, and performance techniques.  Entrance into this ensemble is determined by audition only.  Auditions occur in the spring semester.
