The Appalachia Intermediate Unit 08 has opened registration for students completing grades 2-8 for the summer ATOMS Recharged program, (formerly known as ATOMS). The ATOMS Recharged Scholars Program is a hands-on, in-depth STEM oriented summer program which focuses courses that incorporate the use of equipment funded by the Pittsburgh Penguins Foundation and UPMC. These high-tech tools encourage critical thinking and problem solving strategies that give students a hand-on, advanced level, intensive STEM experience.
We’re very excited to be supporting the American Heart Association’s Jump Rope for Heart program. This program teaches our students and their families how to take care of their hearts.
For 7 days in February, during regular Physical Education class, our school will hold a Jump Rope for Heart event in order to raise money for the American Heart association. Although any donation is greatly appreciated, we ask that each student donate $1. For the safety of our children, we ask that your child does not go door-to-door or ask strangers for donations. Since the event takes place in school during regular Physical Education class, all students will participate regardless of whether or not they are able to make a donation. The funds will be collected by the Tyrone Elementary Physical Education teachers, during the month of February. Checks should be made out to the American Heart Association.
The American Heart Association is dedicated to helping people live longer, healthier lives. The money we raise helps people in our community learn how to avoid heart disease and stroke through regular exercise and healthy eating.
We look forward to this year’s Jump Rope for Heart event and the experience our students will gain from it. We hope you will support your child’s participation in this lifesaving, educational event.
