High School Counseling Office

The HS guidance counselor is available to meet with students in individual and group sessions in order to address personal/social, academic and career needs.  Other resources and services are available as well including, but not limited to:

  • Student Assistance Program where students are matched up with a weekly counselor from an outside agency.  Parent permission is required for this service. 
  • Academic support (voluntary) and Academic Detention (assigned) used to assist students who are struggling with understanding /completing their school work.  This is available Monday- Thursday from 3:15-4:15 in room 213
  • Project safeguard-a team of counselors/administrators review students grades, attendance and discipline and discuss appropriate interventions on a weekly basis
  • Guidance staff is available to assist with SAT registration/College application submission daily

Peer tutoring is a guidance program where High School students are linked to elementary and middle school students as both a tutor and a mentor. Students in this program are graded and given credit.

Johns Hopkins—Center for Talented Youth (CTY)

 

Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth is currently offering a new program, Rural Connections, to expand access to CTY’s summer programs. Students who are chosen will receive a full scholarship to a three-week residential summer program, plus advising support before and after the summer.

 

The application will be available after November 27, 2012.

 

If students have not yet tested through Johns Hopkins Talent Search, they can do so by registering online at http://cty.jhu.edu/talent/ in order to be eligible for a course next summer.

 

Applicants must be currently a 7th or 9th grade student; live in a rural area; have a family income less than $45,000.
